ReasonFest and a Mohawk

I told you I'd do it. Shameless plugging time!

Last year, the Society of Open-Minded Atheists and Agnostics at KU hosted ReasonFest: a 2 day conference which is free for students and the community alike. The debate on the existence of god drew in 700 people, which made the event standing room only. This year we're doing it again, but it's going to be bigger and better. We have a debate, student panels, several speakers, a game room and a documentary screening. You can see the entire schedule HERE.

This event being free to everyone means that we do a lot of fundraising to bring in these speakers and house them for a few days. This also means donations are an integral part of ReasonFest; without them we couldn't make this happen.

Over the next two weeks, I will be tracking our donations. If we receive a total of $1,000 by January 24th, I will be getting a Mohawk onstage during ReasonFest. And my darling boyfriend, JT Eberhard, who is debating for us at the event has so generously offered to cut my hair for me.

With that in mind, we really can use all the help we can get to make this event happen. So if you have $20, $10 or even $5, a little money goes a long way. This event is put on entirely by students, and we're really excited to have it happen.

Oh, and if you happen to be around the Lawrence area - come to ReasonFest! February 11th and 12th! You can register FOR FREE at reasonfest.org (remember last year was standing room only, so if you register, you'll be given a seat first). Hope to see you there!

EDIT // Not every donation is being shown on the ChipIn, so I'll update here!

Current Total Donations: We reached $1,000! Mohawk will happen at ReasonFest - Pictures will be everywhere (including my blog)
Thank you thank you thank you to anyone that has donated! I owe each of you a hug.

  1. I got a kick out of Reason Fest last year, but this years line up of speakers does not seem as impressive.

Why don't you guys scheduale a debate with the infamous "Kansas City Christian Trolls" or, as they like to call themselves, The Goldstein Squad?

    Sincerely, The Master Debater

    It would be a scream!
